A Review of 3D/4D Printing of Poly-Lactic Acid Composites with Bio-Derived Reinforcements

Poly-lactic acid (PLA) has become a commonly used polymer for additive manufacturing because of its bio-derived nature, useful mechanical properties, and excellent processability. Reinforcing PLA with materials been shown to improve the physical, mechanical, thermal properties 3D printed composites and, in some cases, produce active shape-changing hygromorphic structures. also displays shape memory as response changes temperature, making it popular choice 4D printing. This review aims present an overview current state 3D/4D printing reinforcements highlight recent progress future opportunities. comprehensive summarises different forms fused deposition modelling (FDM), factors influencing resulting composites’ performance, research gaps that need addressing. The methods before, during, after enhance material impending innovative filament production technologies have brought attention.
